R&P 4: Deconstructing The Music
Deconstructing The Music
This song features one long shot for the duration of the music video which is a concept which Childish Gambino has used before and after. He has established his own style and it is recognisable with the artist. Andrew Goodwin's music video theory can be applicable to this video. The relationship between the song and the visuals are clear. His flow throughout the song and also the beat remains the same throughout. His lack of progression is demonstrated through the fact the shot does not change throughout and also his facial expression remains the same throughout. The wheel rotating in a circle several times also demonstrates repetition. However the lack of editing contradicts the tempo of the song. This unconventional style goes against Goodwin's theory. Perhaps the producers did this to stand out and be different to the conventional hip-hop music video.
This song is quite the opposite with the constant editing matching the fast tempo of the beat. Whilst they both come from the hip-hop genre they have completely different meaning conveyed through the editing. The artist and his friends seem fun which also matches the funky tempo of the song, the bright yellow screams fun whilst also creating a brand for the artist with the audience therefore relating the yellow and constant bananas seen throughout with the artist.
What has this post taught me?
From this post i have learned the different feelings which can be created depending on the tone and feeling of the song, this includes tempo and beat and how the visuals can be a representation of the song in itself.
