R&P 1: Branding

Branding

''A brand is a distinguishing symbol, mark, logo, name, word, sentence or a combination of these items that companies use to distinguish their product from others in the market. Legal protection given to a brand name is called a trademark.''

- This is demonstrated by most big high street companies as their logo (Branding) is instantly recognisable. Some examples include:

Starbucks Coffee -

But the aim for a musician in terms of branding is slightly different as the aim for an artist is to build feelings between them and the audience. The branding must be consistent and have the correct colours and typography. Somebody who has very consistent and effective branding is James Bay:

James Bay's music is very relaxed and tranquil which is demonstrated perfectly through his image, he is clearly very chilled out and can rarely be found without his iconic hat. Also his music videos in very stripped down demonstrating how he wants the music to be primarily about him and the music in juxtaposition to other artists who have big production value.

What has this post taught me?

from this post i have gained an understanding of the importance that branding has in establishing an artist. particularly a debut artist as through branding they can make themselves instantly recognisable across their various texts to the audience
