R&P 21: Digipak Analysis Intro

What is a Digipak?


A digipak is ''a type of packaging for CDs or DVDs, typically made from cardboard with an internal plastic holder for one or more discs.'' Typically digipak's have 4 or 6 sides. During my research I will establish whether the 4 or 6 sided digipak is more conventional for my type of artist.

The digipaks which I will look at are:

  • Rihanna - Loud
  • Arctic Monkeys - AM
  • Marina And The Diamonds - The Family Jewels

Music Video Analysis (Birdy - Skinny Love) I decided to analyse this music video because Birdy is in the same genre meaning I can look at codes and conventions of the genre. This medium shot is our introduction to the artist and we are fulfilled with mystery as we can not see her face yet can here her singing. Also another key part of the video is Birdy performing the song which is an element which we feel will be essential to our music video. Close ups are used however to help establish the artist and make her more recognisable. That being said the lighting is very dark and so the artist still appears as mysterious. We have shots from many angles of Birdy and also different types of shots e.g close up, medium shot. This adds different dimensions to the video and adds depth.
