R&P 39: Costume Research

Costume Research

As part of my research and planning I decided to put together a few possible outfits for my artist to wear in order to represent the visual style which I was going for. In order to get a good idea of the kind of outfits I wanted my artist to wear I looked at other music artists with a similar style of music and therefore a similar target audience.

Based on the two artists above I decided to construct some outfits to give my artist an idea of possible outfits. I did not want to restrict her independent choice as this was very much key to my artists image however after I conveyed the visual style to her I asked her to send me any outfit ideas she had so I could determine the best outfits for her. Here are outfits I sent below:

What has this post taught me ?

From this post I learned how important it is to construct visual styles in order to represent my audience in a particular whilst also allowing my artist to have a choice in what she wears so that she could come across as herself within the music as honesty is a big part of my artists' music.

Also this post taught me some codes and conventions of outfits which someone from the indie folk genre would wear
