Digipak Analysis (Arctic Monkeys - AM)



The Arctic Monkeys' digipak mirrors the band completely. The Sound Waves have consistent throughout the digipak and even the music video 'Do I wanna know?'. The simplicity of the black and white also mirrors the Arctic Monkeys simplistic and emotionless music which has become iconic of them.The packaging includes two compartments each holding either the CD disk or a lyrics booklet, other than that the digipak is extremely simplified and only contains two images and the band logo when fully opened. 
Whilst the digipak doesn't appeal to the mainstream perhaps with not having the eye catching element which an artist like Rihanna would have it does keep with the integrity of the bands artistic style.

What has this post taught me?

This taught me the importance that the digipak has in reflecting the artist and also the importance of reinforcing branding through the digipak with the front cover conventional of Arctic Monkeys.

Music Video Analysis (Birdy - Skinny Love) I decided to analyse this music video because Birdy is in the same genre meaning I can look at codes and conventions of the genre. This medium shot is our introduction to the artist and we are fulfilled with mystery as we can not see her face yet can here her singing. Also another key part of the video is Birdy performing the song which is an element which we feel will be essential to our music video. Close ups are used however to help establish the artist and make her more recognisable. That being said the lighting is very dark and so the artist still appears as mysterious. We have shots from many angles of Birdy and also different types of shots e.g close up, medium shot. This adds different dimensions to the video and adds depth.
